Job:

External signage, internal graphics & wayfinding

Location:

Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire

Kegstar worked with Motive Graphics to design, manufacture and install external signage, illuminated wayfinding totems and internal graphics at their new warehouse facility on a business park in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. The project included planning approval for halo-illuminated aluminium signage, bespoke front-fix solutions to overcome access restrictions, and large-format signs measuring 19m x 4.5m on the front and rear elevations.

A new warehouse and location

Kegstar relocated their operations from London to a new warehouse at a modern business park in Milton Keynes.

The project came to us via 7-Projects, who were supporting Kegstar through the move. Given the scale and complexity of the site, they approached several local signmakers to deliver the design, manufacture and installation using Kegstar’s existing brand.

The project required experience in large-format signage, complex installation and planning-led environments. We were appointed to deliver the work.

Planning, permissions and preparation

No other buildings on the business park had illuminated signage, which meant the proposed signs required planning approval.

Following detailed site surveys, we introduced Kegstar to a senior planning consultant at Optimis Consultants. The consultant liaised directly with Kegstar and with Milton Keynes City Council on their behalf.

We supplied technical drawings and visualisations showing exactly how the signage would sit on the building. After a small number of revisions, planning approval was granted.

Managing a complex installation

The installation itself came with several challenges. The building features a large fixed canopy structure running along the façade, which staff and visitors walk beneath to access reception.

Because of this, health and safety was critical. We arranged for lifting equipment specialists to carry out their own site surveys so we could plan a safe installation method that worked around the canopy and live access routes.

Access behind the building was also restricted due to a plant room, meaning the signs could not be fixed from the rear. To solve this, we designed and manufactured bespoke fixings using technical drawings of the building, allowing the signs to be securely installed from the front.

What we delivered

External signage

  • Two large-format signs, each measuring 19m wide x 4.5m high, installed on the front and rear elevations

  • One additional logo sign on the side elevation, measuring 3m x 3m

  • Powder-coated black aluminium sign trays

  • Halo-illuminated icons and lettering in white light

Internal graphics

Internal graphics were not part of the original brief. Following the external installation, Kegstar contacted us directly to support the internal space.

  • Wall vinyl graphics supplied by Kegstar’s US headquarters to maintain global brand consistency

  • Graphics applied throughout office areas and within the lift

  • 10mm foamex panels, printed and vinyl-wrapped with full wraparound finish

  • Panels sized at 1200mm x 800mm and installed across the office environment

Totems and wayfinding

Artwork developed by our team to align with Kegstar’s brand.

The finished site

The result is a highly visible, confidently branded site that works within strict planning requirements while delivering real impact at scale. From large-format illuminated signage to detailed internal graphics and wayfinding, the project brings consistency, clarity and presence to Kegstar’s new Milton Keynes base.

“This started as an external signage brief and grew from there. The front and rear signs are 19 metres wide, which means the site survey, the structural planning, and the installation all have to be done properly. When Kegstar later came back to us directly for internal graphics and wayfinding, we were already familiar with the building and the brand. It’s great to see the whole project come together and the final result.”
